NMIT stops training

5 April 2013

IN March 2013, NMIT in Victoria announced that, due to funding cuts made by the Bailleau Government, it was no longer possible to deliver bicycle mechanics training.

No new starts would be signed on, but existing students would be 'taught out' and be able to complete their training.

Given that survery results throughout the bicycle industry indicate that many retailers are 'taking what they can get' in the way of mechanics, because trained mechanics are not readily available, the industry associations are very disappointed in the government's actions.

Talks were to continue in an effort to find funding to continue training.

 ASA Learning Hub

11 September 2012

The ASA Learning Hub has been designed to provide dedicated e-learning and assessment model resource for units of competency from the Australian automotive training package.

These online resources provide the learner with tools to develop their required knowledge along with formative assessments. Example model assessment tools have been provided to assist automotive assessors with the development of their own assessment tools.

The primary principles used in the design of these resources bring together a broad range of instructional and interactive rich media to ensure that the programs engage learners and provide high quality learning outcomes that are prescribed within a dedicated unit of competency.

Torqueing Bikes in August

17 August 2012

More than forty people were in the audience last Wednesday evening to see and hear Darren Baum talk about building handbuilt bicycles, and particularly how he does it.

The whole process was explained, with the accent on the customer and what he wants, and how it fits with Darren's philosphy and building methods.

There were a wide vaiety of good questions afterwards, curtailed ony by the eed to vacate the building at the agreed time! The conversations continued in the car park despite the windy and showery evening.

The next (and last for this year) seminar will be on September 12th at the same venue; the subject will be setting up MTB suspension and the speaker will be Paul Bryant, aka Astroboyracer.

Book online or turn up on the day!
